Using a picture card, the student is asked to make a sentence. For each word in the sentence, he or she places a gem in the divots across the board from left to right. If needed, the educator may model the sentence for the child and provide the exact number of gems needed. For example, if the child says “He playing a game” (leaving the word /is/ out), the teacher would model the sentence emphasizing “is” and then ask the child to do the same. Place a bear in each cubby above the divots, as the student produces “beary” good sentences.
